2023 Grantees Announced by the Barbara McDowell Foundation

The Barbara McDowell and Gerald S. Hartman Foundation has selected the five following organizations for 2023 grants, each receiving an award of $50,000:

The grantees were selected after a rigorous review process conducted by the Foundation’s Advisory Committee, Grant Committee, and Board of Directors.

The Foundation’s 2023 grants are funding cases aimed at correcting injustices in the following issue areas:

  • Access to Benefits

  • Children’s Rights

  • Disability Rights

  • Discrimination

  • Due Process

  • Healthcare

  • Refugee and Immigrant Rights

  • Prisoners’ Rights

The Foundation received this year 39 applications from very worth organizations. The Foundation’s Board of Directors faced a very difficult task in making its decision to award five grants in the amount of $50,000 each for a total of $250,000. As much as the Foundation would have liked all applicants to receive a grant, that was not possible based upon the Foundation’s financial structure to ensure the continued availability of its funds for future grants.

The Foundation encourages applicant organizations not selected as grant recipients to apply in future years.  Interested organizations can click here for deadlines associated with submitting a grant application.
